Shape What's to Come

If you want to shape what's to come, start online.

I really want to relay the story about all of the effort that went into producing the video for Levi’s new social campaign “Shape What’s to Come”, for Job 73.

Levi's is creating a network of empowered women who want to change the world for themselves, the community and the world.  Shape What's to Come "is a place where women around the world connect with peers and mentors alike.  It’s a place to pursue your passion and channel it into something big – a new experience, a career or even a cause.  A community of women changing their worlds. Together, we share, inspire, grow."

I met my connection to the project, David Armano, Senior Vice President of Edelman Interactive and recent speaker at Montreal Webcom, because of a dinner hosted by Tara Hunt while he was in Montreal (Thanks, Tara!).  David was very cordial during dinner and sent an e-mail a few days later telling me that he found my web projects interesting and that Levi's had a new campaign that he wanted to find a way for me to work on for One Hundred Jobs.

After an initial phone interview with the Shape What's to Come marketing team, last Tuesday, one of the marketing managers called me up and asked if I could put together a web video to draw attention to National Adoption Month, which is November, BEFORE the end of November.  That gave me just 5 days to come up with a feasible concept, create a budget, assemble my production team, complete the necessary legal documents, find my video subjects, shoot, edit and complete the video. Good thing that in completing 100 Jobs, I have discovered I am extremely self-motivated, work well under pressure and can handle tight deadlines!

To keep with the theme of Adoption Month, I came up with the concept of locating families that had adopted children, interviewing them, and making the big reveal at end of video that they were amazing, unique kids, who had all been adopted.

The last five days have been an energetic blur!  I researched and made phone calls all afternoon to adoption agencies on Tuesday, created a budget and sent it in, contacted one of my videographer/editors on Tuesday night, received notice that my budget got approved Wednesday morning, researched music on Productiontrax.com, went through over 1000 songs, created legal contracts for videographer and interview subjects, through the help of YummyMummyClub.com located a foster care agency in Ontario called Bridgeway, connected with the director and she connected me with families of recently adopted kids, decided to travel to Ontario, got the travel budget approved by Edelman, figured out travel logistics with my production team, sent off release forms for families, finalized my concept in my head, gathered supplies, did laundry, took care of Max, and woke up Thursday morning to drive to Ontario.

WHEW!

After the fun, traffic-free drive, on Thursday night I continued my search for music, finalized my voice over script for Ashley Rhodes-Courter, author of Three Little Words: A Memoir and Youth Advocacy representative on Shape What's to Come.   On Friday, we filmed two amazing, loving families from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., drove to my parents in Niagara Falls for 8 p.m. scarfed down dinner, and began transferring video.  I stayed up until midnight trying to find music, but was still unhappy with my choices.  After getting up at 8 a.m. to begin our editing marathon, I wound up hearing my videographer's friend's song, "Hoot 'N Holler" by The Big Valley Light Orchestra and got approval to use the song in our video, 18 hours of video editing later we had a rough final assembly, woke up early again Sunday morning, edited for 5 more hours, rendered, exported and uploaded our director's cut. I just barely made the 3:10 Go Train to Toronto to take the 5 pm train back to Montreal, where I edited a shorter version of the footage we shot featuring just the baby and called it "Jingle Baby"!

Double Whew!

On Monday morning (yesterday?!), I sent the videos to my client, got feedback, got my videographer who was still in Ontario to reedit a shorter version by 5 p.m., uploaded it to Vimeo by 7 p.m. and then received final approval by 9 p.m.

Triple Backflip Whew!!!!!

Amazing what being motivated by a good cause and a strict deadline can do. And here are the web videos resulting from our intense and rewarding journey:

Director's cut:

Adoption Month Director's Cut from Aimee Davison on Vimeo.

And last, but not least, the adorable and effervescent Jingle Baby, Chloe:

The second version without music where you can hear me squawking to Chloe in the background:

Job 73 was absolutely one of my favourite jobs to date. What an experience: from working with the Shape What's to Come team and my very patient videographer to meeting the incredibly devoted and loving parents of the adopted children who have their priorities at the centre of what's most important: love.

Adopt Older Children

We sometimes forget
that cute little human beings
need us the most.

I just returned home to my parent's place from a 12 hour shoot day.  I am zonked, but we got a lot of adorable footage of wonderful, unique kids.  They were all adopted through the Ontario foster care system, with the help of a foster care support and placement agency called Bridgeway.

The second parent I met with today drew my attention to a few underreported issues in the foster care system.  At first, I thought it was a coincidence that we wound up filming families with multiple girls and no boys, but I was informed that young boys are much less likely to be fostered and adopted than young girls, and the second most overlooked group is teenaged girls.  Tragic that the groups with the highest emotional needs are the most neglected.

Another little known fact about the Canadian foster care system:  "Thousands of Canadian children live in temporary foster care, and are waiting for permanent homes. The Adoption Council of Canada (ACC) estimates that, nationally, about 22,000 foster kids are eligible for adoption, but only around 1,700 are adopted in a given year."  It's definitely a statistic worth changing.

This weekend, please consider caring for a young human life that needs a heart and a home,

Producing in Ontario!

Snap those fingers, tap those feet... I'm in Ontario working on Job 73!

Oh Canada, you really know how to sell yourself:

Retrontario's channel is actually pretty awesome if you grew up in Ontario and watched a lot of televison in the 1980s.

No confessions here.

Funny that I'm travelling in kooky Canada while working for American clients on American Thanksgiving.

:)

Wish me luck shooting tomorrow!

I found this great introductory series on how to produce films and videos:

As I am currently focusing on producing the Adoption Month video for Job 73, I'll let you watch the above video series and educate yourself in a career you might be curious about, cuz I'm edumacational like dat.*

*and producing on an extremely tight deadline.

Wish me a stroke of genius, flash of insight, moment of brilliance, burst of inspiration and a good night's sleep because I want this to be grand,

Job 73: National Adoption Month

I feel incredibly blessed to announce that I have been hired to produce a video to raise awareness about National Adoption Month for Job 73.  More about my partner when the video is released!

As with all things on the web, this initiative has to move quickly because National Adoption Month closes in just over a week and the approximately 5 minute video is due next Monday. (!!!) I'm glad I have a solid production team that can deliver this quickly to our client!

Some helpful adoption links in Quebec discovered during my research to find children in foster care to interview on Thursday or Friday:

http://www.acjq.qc.ca/ (French foster care and adoption government agency)
http://www.batshaw.qc.ca/ (English Batshaw Youth and Family Centre)

I also found this pamphlet on gay and lesbian adoptions in Quebec, which is incredibly helpful for anyone looking to foster a child or adopt.

Speaking of great causes, Vik's Movember campaign alongside GameRaise.com raised over $800 to benefit men's health during our Stash Bash to Raise Cash at Club Lambi! Movember donations can be made up until the end of November!

Here's a few photos from the event:

The outfit and the stash to raise cash.

Hayley from GameRaise.com, Keharn and Movember steel.

We took to the stage and raised $800!

So excited to collaborate on great social causes,

Documentary film looking for interviewees / to air on CBC Television (Montreal)

Reply to: gigs-g6qez-2074445438@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

IN SEARCH OF THE G SPOT is a documentary film that looks at the origins of the G Spot. The film features the key players who in the 1970s and 1980s offered scientific proof for and against the existence of the G Spot. Has society transformed the G-Spot into a myth, a tool diverted away from women’s intimacy to serve other people’s interests? Or does it really exist? Where does the G Spot stand in today’s society and culture?

The documentary will air on CBC Television in 2011.

The filmmakers would like to interview some “regular folk” to find out what they know about the G Spot. Does it exist? Have they ever experienced it? Do they have any stories to tell? The interviews will be included in the documentary.

These interviews will take place on Sun, Nov 28th in Montreal at our production offices located near Berri Metro. You must be available on that day for approximately 1 hour, sometime between 9:00AM and 8:00PM (you will be given a scheduled time).

If you are interested in being interview, please contact us.

As we are hoping to interview a mix of individuals, please include the following information:
- your gender
- your age
- your language of choice (English or French)
- your ethnic background
- your telephone number and email

Please note that we cannot interview an ACTRA or UDA actor. There is no compensation for this interview.

  • Location: Montreal

I am honoured to be able to lecture to students about the role of social media and its relationship to corporate public relations as reflected in my recent web projects.  Serendipitously, this superbly written Big Fat Marketing Blog post about my Yellow Page Mountain guerilla campaign explains the theories that I will be presenting to Patrice's students.  I will also be paying special attention to sustainable development business practises and the social media PR risks encountered by corporations not fully adhering to their theoretical mandates. *ahem* Yellow Pages one month post delivery!*

Therefore, my answer his offer: ( y )

Upgrades and Raises

Shrink wrapping anything in plastic, including windows, is fun!

Job 70 is in the bag hermetically sealed in plastic!  After 4 hours of wrestling with double sided tape, Comfort Plus plastic film, a hairdryer on an awkward extension cord, extremely noxious smelling "Vanilla Scented" (YEAH RIGHT!) Mulco sealant caulking, two cats and Max pitter-pattering around, Natalie's house is ready for the winter, more energy efficient and upgraded to being more environmentally friendly!

I wound up bringing my son, Max the Lego Monster, with me yesterday, because I was so exhausted from channelling my energy into Yellow Page Mountain and I slept in long past the start of his school day (New talent: I can now shut off my Blackberry in my sleep.).  I also think it's important that parents not hide their working lives from their children: he learns countless things by watching me do them.  You'll see Max's adorable comments when the video is out next week!

IN OTHER JOBS:

It's simple economics: a limited resource that is in demand has the luxury of raising its rates.  Also, I am becoming an expert in several disciplines that have a revenue generating value far exceeding $100.  I need to be compensated accordingly.  To continue to sell myself short, even if it motivates buyers in bulk, is disrespectful to myself and undermines my true professional value beyond the scope of this project.  I have worked incredibly hard for my recent successes and slogged at it, been an apprentice, intern, and novelty long enough.  Bye bye to the association of One Hundred Jobs with $100.

Here is my new rate chart for Job 72 up:

$100: A simple task or manual labour under 4 hours. Examples: cleaning, installing plastic on windows, making a funny phone call, delivering balloons, taking your dog for a walk.

$250: A professional task. Examples: assisting at a trade show, consulting, beta testing, writing.

$500: Performance and sponsored. Examples: Speaking at a small event, hosting a video for a day, modelling, branded activities promoting a business or product.

$1000+: Producing. Examples: Giving a talk to a large audience, creating a custom web series or social media campaign for you or your company.

I  have many more job offers to reveal, by the way!

I'll let you know after I complete Job 68 today: helping a woman to rebrand and promote herself in our amazing digital economy,

Reduce, Reuse, Transition.

 Trying...

To...

Give...

Same stinkeye face to the YPG!

Aujourd'hui, I was supposed to work at Job 68 as a private social media consultant.  Instead, I spent the majority of my day giving interviews after the publication of an impressive article on Yellow Page Mountain on page A3 of one of Canada's national newspapers, The Globe and Mail.

Here is my first radio interview of the day on The John Gormley Show from Saskatchewan:

My message to everyone reading tonight: if you don't use the Yellow Pages, please take 5 minutes and OPT-OUT and JOIN OUR FACEBOOK PAGE.

I will post a lengthy reflection on YellowPageMountain.com as soon as I have processed all the public feedback from the press articles and the original YouTube video.

Judging by the comments, I think many people are angrier about something greater than losing the Yellow Pages.  I think many people are frightened by the irreversible way in which the Internet has altered our personal and professional lives.  I feel that the tension I am witnessing is a sign that we have transitioned into the digital era.  Old mediums, such as the Yellow Pages, have become unnecessary, and the adoption of new technological skills and tools is now required to access key information in our society.

Do you feel the same way?

IN OTHER JOBS:

Unless Oprah calls, tomorrow I will be winterizing a house for Job 70 in the late afternoon.  I will be bringing my video camera and my booty shorts tool belt  Internet connection casual clothes to complete the necessary chores.

Lady Aimee's Editorials

As promised, here are the photos of me modelling a week and $160 worth of Lady Jane's wares for Job 67, with 3 of my own basic pieces: a white long sleeved shirt, a pair of blue slacks and black heels.  Below each photo is the splashy-flashy-catchy name I gave to each look:

Monday: "Casual Corporate" (Don't mess with my vest!)

Tuesday: "Client Meeting" (Yes, you will pay me 1M for that pitch.)

Wednesday: "Wintour Wednesday" with appropriately dramatic rays. (Anna would approve.)

Thursday: "Parent Teacher Interviews" (Irony + Fashion= Cheeky Hipster WIN!)

Friday: "Office Cutie" (Jail Cougar?)

Friday: "Office Cutie" Headshot with maaaaybe a touch of the blur tool.  (Fashion 'shops: get used to it!)

Saturday: "Sexy Saturday" (Or me when I'm not blogging. No lies.)

Sunday: "Sunday Shopping" (Grandma approved!)

Again, if you are interested in any of the clothing, let me know and I'll dress hook you up!  Only $20 per item!

IN OTHER JOBS:

Holy smokies, things are moving at One Hundred Jobs HQ.  I was offered a half dozen more jobs, which is more than I can actually process or report on right now, because I am not a robot/cyborg/superhero* and "Yellow Page Mountain" was just featured TONIGHT in the Globe and Mail technology section from an interview I gave THIS MORNING.  Moral: things move quickly on the Internets and it's a perpetual challenge to keep up!

*I am, however, "Sexy Saturday."

Tomorrow, for Job 68, I will be consulting for a woman I met while lecturing at LaPasserelle about social media.  I am going to set up her personal web presence and help her to develop and implement her You-commerce strategy.

Of course I am keeping the coveted Job 69 spot open.  I offered a unitard company the exclusive chance to have a creative high fashion unitard editorial shot for their promotion and usage, but they did not accept my offer yet.  I still need a better offer.

And from the Job Inbox for Job 70:
Aimee: Would you winterize my house for $100? Involves putting plastic film on doors/windows and sealing air leaks with weatherstripping tape or foam. Also, replacing the bottom flap of the front door. Probably a 2 hour job. My name is Natalie, I live in the Mile-End, and I'm too damn busy! Great concept by the way.
Nat.
I will gladly winterize her house for $100 and help keep her family safe and warm for the winter!

For Job 71, I will be framing a print for Helge Seetzen

And for the rest of my offers, you'll just have to tremble in anticipation much like the Yellow Page Group's probable fear of their imminent public reckoning,

Treasure Trove!

I had a blast working as a model/stylist for Lady Jane's Treasure Trove, for Job 67, on Sunday.  All pieces that I modelled in the video are $20.00, for a grand total of $160.00 for all seven looks!  If you want to buy any pieces, please let me know and I'll hook you up with my dirty clothes selections:

To hell with recessionistas!  Onehundredjobs is Montreal's premier filthy-mouthed friperie fashionista!

Tweet for Jobs

Before the FB poke...

And after the FB poke... from Olay to alien.

Class is dismissed!  I completed Job 64 at La Passerelle today: lecturing about social media to unemployed adults who are transitioning in their careers at a time when web 3.0 is dramatically changing our professional lives in a way that cannot be ignored and must be understood and properly utilized.

Here's my short and sweet frills-free Twitter presentation for all the cute little TWI-NOOBS on the interwebz:

I already received some encouraging feedback about my lecturing skills from one of the class attendees that made me feel fuzzier than poking Bugsy Brown:

"It was really interesting to see you talking at La Passerelle today. You were simply amazing!!!! Congrats!!! - Yvette"

I was your teacher.  Yes, yes I was. :D

IN OTHER JOBS:

You wanna party with my abs me?

Come to my $5 Movember charity event tomorrow night at Club Lambi (which is also Job 60)!

Also: I booked TWO MOAR JOBZ!  But wait...

JOB 69!!!!!!

I said this before, but I want Job 69 to be sexy (but not "SEX"y).  I need someone, anyone with connections at Maxim, Details, Summum, Zinc, Vogue, PasMag, Jugs whatever to help me out.  I cannot let that coveted spot turn into a desk deck job, because yeah, I just got an offer to build a deck.  HA!  Help!

Finally, in Yellow Page Mountain news, our newest strategy is to get 600 000 members (yes, really) to join our FACEBOOK FAN PAGE so we can prove via digital means to the Yellow Page Group that definitively more than 1% of the Canadian population wants to opt-out of the Yellow Pages.  I think it's possible.

Dream big to go big and don't forget to Tweet your beauty cream,

Creative Cures

Awww...  *vomit*

Who would have ever thought that I would get a job offer because of an entrepreneurial effort to defray the cost of braces?  This job offer makes me grin like a mime on mescaline!  YEAH!
Hi Aimee!
I started an online treasure trove of (mostly) vintage & gently-loved goodies about a year ago to help defray the cost of my braces.
The blog, called Lady Jane's Treasure Trove, has TAKEN OFF! It even got an honourable mention in the Mirror's Best of Montreal 2010 for Best Montreal Blog.
I'd love to have you in as a guest stylist and model for an afternoon (4 hours).
The challenge:
Make an 8 piece mix & match wardrobe for under $200 using Trove finds + your basics: blue jeans, white blouse, vee-neck sweater.
We'd take photos of you in the outfits and feature a different outfit every day for a week on the Trove site!
There is A LOT more clothing and jewelry in the physical Trove (a room in my apartment) than on-line, but feel free to take a look at the site for an idea of what's available.
There are some real steals in there right now, all for under $40, including a Diane Von Furstenberg dress, an Anna Sui dress, a Moschino skirt, and much more!
What say you?
Cheers,
MJ
--

I say, "Rip up those dental bills, I'm about to flash my pearly whites and hock your vintage frocks for Job 67!"

Or something like that.

IN JOBS FROM AROUND THE WEB:

Less joyous, but no less entrepreneurial in their efforts to defray the cost of medical care, a Kansas family is selling their 5 year-old's drawings of monsters on Etsy.com to help pay for his cancer treatments.  Their story reminds me how fortunate we are in Canada to have socialized medicine, but equally how enabling and empowering it can be to promote and monetize one's talents online, especially via social networking.

Without an inexpensive online shop on Etsy.com and the support of social networks (I heard about their plight on Twitter), I never would have found out about their cause, nor have been able to help out.  Right now, we have amazing free tools at our disposal to create our own revenue streams if we have a good product and we put in the time and effort to promote it!  Another You-commerce win!

I'm glad that Aidan's family will be able to keep their house, and happy that I can help M.J. with her smile by promoting her wares online,

Remember Movember!

Here's a sneak peek at my costume for the Movember event I'm hosting on FRIDAY NIGHT AT CLUB LAMBI for Job 60.  Tickets are $5, beer is cheap, four bands are playing, two DJs spinning, there will be prizes for best moustache and I'll be hosting like a Mo' Sista!  The proceeds go to benefit research for prostate cancer.  EPIC WIN 4 MEN, much like my get-up:

If you can't come and witness my awesome abs 'stash, you can donate to our team's Movember page HERE.

Yeah, I know I kinda look like a mime again.  At some point you gotta accept who you are, non?  Oui?  Like this lady, who, laughs aside, I quite respect:

And this girl looks like a cute boy minus a deep voice to me, though prepare for an interesting breach of journalistic objectivity via face stroking O_O :

Therefore, friends of facial hair unite on Friday night... or Burt will haunt your dreams!

Too late.

IN OTHER JOBS:

I have received numerous potential job offers from an enthusiastic man named Helge Seetzen.  Doesn't he have a great name?  HELGE!  SEEE-T-ZEEEEN!  JA!

I am currently trying to get a picture framed for him within a strict budget, and I may be helping him with a tech event later in the month.  If you have any connections in framing for a 30 by 18 print with white matting and a black frame, please let me know in the comments!

I was supposed to lecture at La Passerelle today, but I was feeling terribly under the weather, so I bumped the job until Thursday.  I am still looking for more suggestions for Montreal networking events and social networks for professionals, so please feel free to leave those in the comments, as well.

Good night and glorious dreams of Reynolds on a rug with his nuts nuts,

One More Mime!

Last week, an account manager at Bam Strategy Googled "Montreal Mime."

Guess who that search immediately led to?

[^_^] Love-the-mime, of course!

Here's a little Google "Search Stories" reenactment:

Ha!  So today, I slathered on the white paint, whipped up an "office mime" costume and worked my mime mojo at Bam Strategy for Xavier's 30th birthday and Job 66.  Video out in a couple days!

I am retiring as a professional mime, though.  Nope, not even if I am offered to mime-it-out with this zexy HPA:

Image of Tysontv, also known as Carrot Top's long lost cousin, Frosted Tips.

You'll have to find another fierce mime like him to do your dirty work:

Or pay me $1000.

For the Rat Race

OMFGBBQFML!!!!  It's Friday, I am finally finished editing the Yellow Page Mountain video after 40 hours of intense work, and here's a cute job offer to entertain those of us who are always on the run (me):

Hi Aimee,

I might have a job for you, but you might not want it because it's basically on spec.  But I thought I'd try.

I own a pretty great treadmill.  But, I'm now running outside (even in winter) and using the YMCA, so I haven't been on it in 2 years.  I'd like you to sell it for me.

It's a PaceMaster ProSelect Treadmill.  I bought it in 2005 for $2200.  Comes with a heart monitor strap, and includes workout settings with a target heart-rate, pre-progammed settings, etc.

Here are some online examples of the same treadmill:

Some conditions:

1) I think it can go for $600.
2) I will pay for the moving (I know a mover who I trust; they moved it into my place 3 years ago -- they are the folks at 'Play It Again Sports' near Jean Talon, and in addition to moving it, they balance the rollers once it has been set in its new space).
3) If the sale goes for $600 then I will pay you $100.
4) For every dollar above $600, you will get fifty cents. Thus, if you sell the treadmill for $800, you will make $200.  If you sell it for $900, you will make $250.
I would be very surprised, however, if the treadmill goes for more than $700 -- about a third of what I paid for it.
5) You would have to take care of all aspects of the sale -- showings to interested buyers, listing on craigslist, taking calls, arranging the move.  One lead is to ask "Play it Again Sports", since they buy and sell treadmills.  (And, if they do them on spec, you can even outsource it!  I just don't want to have to deal with the sale).  I will show it to you, hand you a pair of keys to the place (it's set up in the bedroom of my apartment), ask you to cellphone/text me when you need to show it, but from then on, it's your baby.

Please let me know.

Best Regards,

Bob
