Who would have ever thought that I would get a job offer because of an entrepreneurial effort to defray the cost of braces? This job offer makes me grin like a mime on mescaline! YEAH!
Hi Aimee!
I started an online treasure trove of (mostly) vintage & gently-loved goodies about a year ago to help defray the cost of my braces.
The blog, called Lady Jane's Treasure Trove, has TAKEN OFF! It even got an honourable mention in the Mirror's Best of Montreal 2010 for Best Montreal Blog.
I'd love to have you in as a guest stylist and model for an afternoon (4 hours).
The challenge:
Make an 8 piece mix & match wardrobe for under $200 using Trove finds + your basics: blue jeans, white blouse, vee-neck sweater.
We'd take photos of you in the outfits and feature a different outfit every day for a week on the Trove site!
There is A LOT more clothing and jewelry in the physical Trove (a room in my apartment) than on-line, but feel free to take a look at the site for an idea of what's available.
There are some real steals in there right now, all for under $40, including a Diane Von Furstenberg dress, an Anna Sui dress, a Moschino skirt, and much more!
What say you?
Cheers,
MJ--
I say, "Rip up those dental bills, I'm about to flash my pearly whites and hock your vintage frocks for Job 67!"
Or something like that.
IN JOBS FROM AROUND THE WEB:
Less joyous, but no less entrepreneurial in their efforts to defray the cost of medical care, a Kansas family is selling their 5 year-old's drawings of monsters on Etsy.com to help pay for his cancer treatments. Their story reminds me how fortunate we are in Canada to have socialized medicine, but equally how enabling and empowering it can be to promote and monetize one's talents online, especially via social networking.
Without an inexpensive online shop on Etsy.com and the support of social networks (I heard about their plight on Twitter), I never would have found out about their cause, nor have been able to help out. Right now, we have amazing free tools at our disposal to create our own revenue streams if we have a good product and we put in the time and effort to promote it! Another You-commerce win!
I'm glad that Aidan's family will be able to keep their house, and happy that I can help M.J. with her smile by promoting her wares online,
Aimee
